Frequently Asked Questions

We know you may have questions about therapy or our practice. Some of the most common questions are answered below, and if you don't find the answer you're looking for, please contact us.

What services do you offer?

We provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, trauma, related disorders, and personal growth. Our approach is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based, tailored to each client's unique needs.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

We utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities that have been scientifically proven to be effective. These include Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other research-supported approaches. We carefully select treatment methods based on what research has shown to be most effective for your specific concerns, while adapting our approach to fit your individual needs and preferences.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We are an in-network provider for Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield New York (formerly Empire), UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Quest Behavioral Health.

We also offer assistance by checking your out-of-network benefits and providing self-pay options. Please contact our office with your specific insurance information, and we'll help verify your coverage and benefits.

What are your fees?

For out-of-network and self-pay clients, our standard session fee is $200. We understand that therapy can be a significant investment, and we are committed to making mental health care accessible. We offer sliding scale fees based on financial need and income, with a limited number of reduced-fee slots available. Please discuss your financial situation with us during your initial consultation, and we'll work together to find a fee that works for you.

If you're using insurance, your cost will depend on your specific plan and coverage. If you are using out-of-network benefits, we will provide a Superbill. We'll discuss all fees and payment expectations before beginning therapy.

Can I Use My Insurance's Out-of-Network Benefits?

Yes, your out-of-network benefits can help make therapy more affordable! You can request a superbill from us, which provides a detailed receipt of your payment that you can submit to your insurance company.

Depending on your insurance plan and after you've met your deductible, you may be reimbursed for most or a significant portion of the therapy fees you've paid. We are happy to provide an estimate of your potential reimbursement, so you can get a better understanding of what you might expect from your insurance. Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance!

How long are sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 45 to 53 minutes long.

How often will we meet?

Out clients begin with weekly sessions. As you progress, we may adjust the frequency based on your needs and goals.

What happens in the first session?

The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your history, goals, and any questions you have. This helps us determine if we're a good fit and develop a preliminary treatment plan.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice. All information shared in sessions is protected by law and professional ethics. There are a few specific situations where therapists are legally required to break confidentiality, such as if there is immediate risk of harm to yourself or others.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes, Magenta Therapy is a telehealth practice that offers secure video sessions for clients using HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy and security.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by filling out this form, calling us at (646) 386-8475, or sending an email.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed sessions will result in a $130 fee.

How long does therapy last?

The duration of therapy varies for each person depending on their goals and circumstances. Some clients attend for a few months to work through specific issues, while others find longer-term therapy more beneficial. We'll regularly review your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

What if I need to reach you between sessions?

Email and text are the best ways to contact us between sessions and we make every effort to get back to patients as promptly as possible. For emergencies outside of business hours, we recommend calling 911 or your local crisis hotline.

How do I know if therapy is working?

We'll work together to establish clear goals and regularly review your progress. Success in therapy often includes feeling better equipped to handle challenges, improved relationships, improved symptom management, and better overall well-being. We encourage open dialogue about your therapy experience and will make adjustments as needed.
