Why We Exist

“Therapy is not just about treating symptoms. It’s about helping people rediscover their strength, rebuild trust in themselves, and create the life they deserve.”

— Emilia Shapiro, LCSW, Founder of Magenta Therapy

Two people embracing, conveying support and connection
What We Believe

You deserve to feel heard before you feel “treated.”

So much of therapy fails people not because the techniques are wrong, but because the person never felt genuinely understood in the first place. We start from the opposite end. Before we talk about a plan, we make sure you feel seen: the full picture of what you’re carrying, not just the symptom that brought you in.

Our mission is to help individuals and couples build healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives through compassionate, effective mental health care. That means treatment grounded in evidence, delivered by clinicians who treat you like a whole person with a real life, real relationships, and reasons you can’t always drop everything for an appointment.

How Therapy Works Here

Online, evidence-based, and built around your real life

Every session at Magenta Therapy happens over secure, HIPAA-compliant video, so care fits into your week instead of competing with it. There’s no commute, no waiting room. Just a private, consistent space to do the work.

We match the approach to you rather than the other way around, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Whether you’re navigating anxiety, OCD, or strain in your relationships and dating life, the work is tailored to what’s actually happening for you.

What Makes Us Different

Care that’s personal, not generic

A small, focused practice means you’re never a number on a roster. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Woman-Owned

Founded and led by a woman who built this practice around the kind of care she believes people actually deserve.

Specialist-Level Care

Focused expertise in anxiety, OCD and ERP, mood, and relationships, not a little of everything.

Fully Telehealth

Online therapy across New York and Connecticut, so the right therapist isn’t limited by your zip code.

Insurance-Friendly

In-network with major plans, with self-pay and sliding-scale options so cost is one less barrier.

Evidence-Based & Warm

CBT, DBT, and ERP delivered by clinicians who are rigorous about the method and gentle with the person.

Individuals & Couples

Support for the work you do on your own and the work you do together, under one trusted roof.

A path winding through an open field, suggesting a way forward
What It Feels Like Here

A space where you don’t have to perform

You don’t need to arrive with the right words or a tidy version of what’s wrong. The first conversation is for putting things down, not explaining them perfectly. Over time, that space becomes a place to understand yourself more clearly, and to make changes that actually hold.

Who You’re Working With

Founded by Emilia Shapiro, LCSW

Magenta Therapy began with one clinician’s conviction that people heal fastest when they feel respected, understood, and genuinely partnered with. Emilia founded the practice as a woman-owned space where every person feels truly heard, and where the care is as rigorous as it is warm.

That conviction has since grown into a group practice. Today, a team of licensed clinicians carries the same standard forward, each with their own specialties and style, all sharing the belief that good therapy starts with feeling understood. You can read more about each clinician’s background, specialties, and approach on our team page.
